This appeared in Ruth Reichl's letter in the Gourmet Weekly this morning:

"We've heard from the owners of Grace and BLD in Los Angeles, and they told us the restaurant invested in a specialized water-filtration system to do away with expensive, wasteful bottled water. The water charge was created to compensate for the costly purchase and maintenance of the filtration system. Due to the largely negative response, they've done away with the fee and now offer flat or sparkling reverse-osmosis water gratis."

Folks, just a quick note that while a report that a local restaurant has removed their water charge is on topic for the LA board, the debate on whether bottled water is a bad thing is not. Comments that get into that debate will be removed.
