South End Eateries with 3 Year Old

My 3-year old son and I are headed to Boston to visit my sister next week and unfortunately, she is not able to get out of work to show us around when we first arrive off the plane, so I will need to find a lunch place fairly close to where she lives in the South End. I'm looking for something with good food that would be okay with a well-behaved, adventurous eating young child. My parents claim that B&G Oyster and some other local spots would be fine with a child - but I'm not so sure.

If anyone has advice, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Garden of Eden is a great spot for lunch especially with child. Casual atmosphere, good food and very accomodating to children.

I'm not sure it's where as much as it's when. The best time to bring children are outside of the lunch and dinner rushes (before better than after). During high time the crowd can be a bit too much and the service a bit too slow for the average 3 year old to handle.

Most South End restaurants would be fine. PICCO might be the best bet - Pizza and Ice Cream are their specialties, and they have some great pastas. Petit Robert also tends to be very kid friendly (French Bistro food).

Yep, I think Picco is the way to go...

I'm not sure that Toro is open for lunch. They do brunch Sundays but other than that I think it's dinner only.

Well, give it's lunch, anything 'too fancy' for a 3 year old will be a dinner-only restaurant will be closed anyway. For lunch, I'd go more for food type and price point than location.

If you are looking for more of a casual atmosphere with interesting sandwiches, baked treats and accoutrements, I would head to the Buttery on Union Park or Flour on Washington Street...and save B&G for a fun dinner out!

I think B&G at lunchtime would be fine as would Picco or Pops.
