Born and bred, Brooklyn! Los Angeleno now (the Italian food sucks!) -- going back to NYC and wanna visit the Old World for a great italian meal. I hear that IL COLESEO is fantastic -- an Italian friend of mine swears by it.. is it really still great??? Any other ideas? Bensonhurst or Bay Ridge or Park Slope (I hear al di la, you can wait for hours and the food is hit or miss).... If you guys need ideas for LA, hit me up. I'll return the favor if you visit in the near future. Thanks guys... Joey

Do you know for a fact that Nathan's is closing or are you just speculating that it will close?

You can't go wrong with Queen on Court Street in downtown Brooklyn. Order from the daily special menu (and don't miss the fresh mozzarella, their signature dish), and enjoy a nice bottle of Italian wine.

Do a search here on the Outer Boroughs board for Queen and you'll see what I mean.

        A strong second for Queen.

Il Colosseo is still fine--for brick oven pizza, grilled fresh fish, lively atmosphere, good pasta, with loads of big tables of families. No faux retro shtick, just the bustle of what could be a neighborhood trattoria in Naples or Bari.

La Palina on Ave O is a great place, and won't bankrupt you

Yes I was at La Palina 2 weeks ago and my fussy brother-in-law goes there from Nassau County to eat there. It's good and in the zone pricewise.

I do not think they will closing Nathans in Coney because I believe the building is a landmark.
If you are looking for good spots in Bensonhurst, I second La Palina and also recommend Ortobello restaurant on 6401 Bay Parkway. Excellent food for a reasonable price. You'll feel like you are in a time warp when you goto this place!
