Rehoboth Beach, DE

Im heading down for a weekend trip this Friday to Rehoboth Beach to visit Dogfish Head and plan on staying down there for a day or two in the area.

Any recommendations for places to get some good grub, Ill be travelling down from Jersey and other than White House subs, I have no other must-stop on the way or while down there.

Ive heard great things about the Dogfish Head brewpub, looking forward to it- by far, my favorite craft brewery.

I have to give my feedback being that this past weekend I went down and this was the first time I had been down to any Delaware Beach. I could not in any way been any more impressed with the town of Rehoboth or with the Dogfish Head brewery and brewpub. It was an awesome weekend- truly the pilgrimage to my Mecca for a beer dork like myself- solidified my opinion that this is the BEST craft brewer in the country.

    My review of Dogfish:
Friday afternoon, wife and I showed up in Milton for the brewtour with the requisite three wawa stops on the way down of course. The tour was short but tight- guides were happy to answer questions and to have some fun with the ordeal. Afterwards, told you could sample 2-3 of the 4 on tap- turns out they were happy to refill all you possibly wanted with the warning that the cops are aware of their tour times. Included on the tap were the 60 minute, 90 minute, raison, and world wide stout! These are not cheap beers, the WW is $10 a bottle in stores and it was all you can drink. I loaded up my truck with all the rarities they had left in order to age at home.

Made it Friday night to Rehoboth beach and went immediately to the Brewpub, as our hotel was perfectly next door. Dinner was good- salmon sandwich and 'dogpile' app were good but the beers were unreal. Stuff you can only get down there.

On Saturday after hitting the outlets, went back to the brewpub and the waitress was great and the food was much better- loved the mussels and the mushroom pizza. Topped off my visit down there with a "heaven and hell"- a black and tan made from 120 minute and world wide: doesnt get much better than that.

Cant wait to get back and the best part was that my non beer-dork wife loved it just as much. Wanted to also mention that I hit a bakery (name?) on the beach the sat morning and the muffins were silly good and great service.

yankeefan (and you seem like such a good guy LOL), if you're also a hot-sauce dork next time you're down in Rehoboth definitely check out Peppers at the outlets. The selection of hot sauces will blow you away (as will some of the sauces themselves).

I also second the recs for Go Fish and Louie's Pizza. We prefer Grotto to Nicola for pizza, but the Nic-a-boli at Nicola is very good.

Dude, you know me too well. Do you think I really would have missed that. Im a hot sauce connissuer (sp?) as well and this is the first store that had a mustard that truly tested my palate- I loaded up on several sauces there. It was almost as much paradise as Dogfish. I particularly liked the ability to virtually sample anything I wanted.

The top pick from that outlet mall was surely not banana republic, brooks brothers, j crew, but the cilantro hot sauce from that joint.

You got me pinned bob. Im heading down again between xmas and new years and appreciate the other recs to try some different stuff to accompany my brews.

The Summer House is good. It's fairly inexpensive and right on Rehoboth Avenue. Grotto Pizza is a local favorite, but I prefer Nicola's. Nicola's might be a good spot to go for lunch if you are into pizza. Go Fish!, also on the avenue, has great fish and chips that you can order right from the window. They also have a sit-down restaurant, but the ambience reminds me of a UK subway station (I actually think that's what they may have been going for). If you love sushi/Japanese food, the Cultured Pearl (also on Rehboth Avenue) is GREAT. Fins, also on the Avenue, has an atmosphere similar to Dogfish Head and if my memory serves me correctly, they serve microbrews there. This restaurant has good fresh fish and a great selection of raw oysters.

Rehoboth has some great restaurants. If you are looking for more upscale options, I can give you some additional suggestions.

Lewes, a bit north on Route 1, is also worth checking out. It has some good restaurants and stuff too.

Thanks. What do you think of the dogfish brewpub?

Im also assuming there are decent hotel options down there that I can get pretty easily and reasonably this time of year.

Got to love the DFH microbrewery, they have such a cool attitude towards beer.At the brewpub they will often have surprise offerings.I think they have a new 120 minute IPA.If you like craft beers, its like a pilgrimage. But as far as the food,I never got anything particularly great there. The pizzas are a bit odd (grilled with non-standard toppings). If you want to get Pizza in Rehoboth,I will always pimp Louies Pizza "Home of the grinder".Blows Nicola and Grotto away. And yes the next couple weeks (until before Thanksgiving weekend which will be slammed) should offer some decent hotel values.
Check Tripadvisor.com for hotel reviews and rates.

I really like the Dogfish Brewpub. We just don't go there much because my husband is a Bud man and I prefer wine. I actually like the brick oven pizzas there a lot, but agree they aren't like your standard pizza. Dogfish has good live music on the weekend nights usually too.

You should be able to get pretty good rates that weekend. The Atlantic Sands is right on the water and not too, too expensive. We also stayed at the Breakers one weekend in August (not on the water but close enough) and got a good rate so you should be able to get a really good one now.

I had lunch there last Thursday and really liked it. MY DH and I had the salmon with Brie and mustard sandwich. the only problem was ordering a berger. It was ordered medium and came out burnt. the reason--- the wood grill runs hot???

I could have eaten a shoe there covered with mustard and would be back with bells on for those beers. :)
