My hubby & I are traveling to Boston next week for the first time and are trying to find a great steakhouse and places for breakfast. We are staying downtown at the Hyatt Regency. Any suggestions?

What kind of breakfast are you looking for - classic, buffet, dim sum, diner...?

      Classic or diner style.

No dearth of steak houses, all pricey. I like Grill 23, others favor Capital Grill.

For breakfast, Mike's City Diner is good but breakfast at Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe on Columbus is not to be missed. Closed on Sundays.

For steakhouses, Grill 23 is my favorite, followed by the Capital Grille.

For breakfast, traditional diner Mike's City Diner on Washington Street in the South End is my favorite, and have recently been to Toro several times for brunch. Search for Toro brunch and you can read about it.

Grill 23 is still my favorite in Boston, there are lots of other good ones as well though new (Mooo) and old (Oak Room)

One of my favorite breakfast places is the buffet at Henrietta's Table in the Charles Hotel (Cambridge, Harvard Sq).
It is very well done, the choices are great, everything is very fresh not you're typical buffet it has something for everyone.

It's worth noting that the buffet is for Sunday brunch only (noon - 3pm), and costs $42 per person. Saturday brunch is a 3-course a la carte menu for $24, and actual breakfast is served 7 days a week from 6:30 (M-F) or 7am (Sa/Su) till 11am (10:30 on Sundays.)

For general background on steak here, and the chefs, you might appreciate this story from Boston magazine...

I'll heartily echo the suggestions of Grill 23 and The Oak Room for steak; both are near the Back Bay stop on the Orange Line (your hotel is very close to the Downtown Crossing stop on that same line). Capital Grille is probably the best of the chains (on the Green Line at Hynes).

If you want a diner style breakfast, Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe in the South End (a brief walk from the Back Bay stop) is arguably the best spot in Boston for it and a real "locals" kind of place -- closed Sundays, though.
