Picholine question

Blumie Nov 7, 2007 09:54 AM

I'm going to a show at the Beacon tonight and thinking of stopping by Picholine for some wine and cheese beforehand. Can I show up in jeans? Am I likely to find two seats at the bar at 7:00pm (the dining room is fully booked; plus I would not be comfortable in jeans in the dining room)? Any other suggestions for a quick bite that are convenient to the Beacon?

I can't comment on how full the bar area at Picholine is on an average weeknight, but we were recently there at 8:30 on a Sunday and the bar was more than half empty. You're right that you probably wouldn't be comfortable in jeans in the dining room - most of the men are in jackets, some with ties - but the bar area seemed a bit more relaxed, and as long as the jeans you're wearing are nicer ones, you'll probably be fine. As you probably already know, the cheese cart at Picholine is spectacular, and after our meal there I had thoughts on heading back soon just to sit at the bar and sample more of the choices!

La Fortuna at 71st off Columbus is perfect for soups, salads, sandwiches, pies and cakes of all kinds.

Try Kefi, a great little greek resto on 79th btw Amsterdam and Broadway.
