Where to take my picky family?!?

My family is coming for a pre-Christmas visit, and I want to take them out to dinner. However, I haven't been here long myself and am at a loss as to where to take them. My father in particular isn't a very adventurous eater, so a good burger/Italian/steak place for a reasonable price is what I'm looking for. Thanks in advance!

  1. Lanza's or Johns, both in the East Village. Friendly, delicious and familiar.

    1. I will be helpful if you can tell us your budget (price range incl. alcohol, tax and tip), location perference, and any specific ambience you are looking for

      1. Houston's has good ole safe american food. I'm always irritated when my friends want to go there but the food is actually pretty good.

        1. I know exactly how you feel. Seems like 99% of my family fall into that camp ("Oh, I'll eat anything ... except that, and that, and that...").

How much is "reasonable" for you, and how many do you expect in your party?

Also, when none of the more typical chowhound sites work out, there are always the chain restaurants (yes, we have them in Manhattan, too) or good diners.

I'm a big fan of the West Bank Cafe on 42nd just west of 9th. They have a lot of menu choices, it's a bit of a theater hang out, and the kind of place they wouldn't go to at home. If nothing else, they can get a good burger there.

          2. Crispo - Italian

            Keens - steak

Le Madeleine - eater friendly French

Keen's is great, but I don't the the OP would call it reasonably priced.

I'm always torn on that part of the question (reasonably priced) so I throw out some suggestions and let the OP make the call. I agree that, except in comparison to some other NYC restaurants, it is not what most would call reasonable.
