Decent turkey bacon [Moved from Home Cooking board]

I converted back to a carnivore recently but am trying to stay away from pork products. But I love me some bacon. I can’t find any decent turkey bacon. Does it exist??

Although I think turkey bacon is in the same league as Tofurkey, I remember reading a tasting review of turkey bacons at America's Test Kitchen. I can't remember the results, but it should still be up on their website.

the most decent tasting in my opinion has been the one i find pre-packaged at Whole foods, i cant remember the name. Uncured and nitrate free, but still retains a really good flavor. does equally well in skillet, oven, and microwave. even imparts a bit of fat compared to your general turkey bacon.

Bear in mind "nitrate free" is a marketing claim, and products labeled as such still contain nitrates.

Without nitrates, any cured meat will become dingy gray. If it isn't, it has nitrates added.

How is this legal? Check the ingredient label on any product making the claim, and you'll notice an unusual ingredient...celery juice or extract.

Why would you find this in a cured meat product?? Because celery is a natural source of...you guessed it...nitrates. But, since you aren't directly adding the chemical, you can claim "nitrate-free". But in the end, you are still getting just as much as you would in a regular, nitrate-added product.
