Overeasy - Coming Soon (PHX)
Saw this article yesterday in the repug about a new Aaron May breakfast venture (of Sol y Sombra fame) in Arcadia: http://www.azcentral.com/ent/dining/a...
I drove by this morning on the way to work and didn't see any signs, anyone have some insider scoop? Sounds like a great addition to the neighborhood.
Overeasy

Ya, its open. May is partners with the guys that own The Vig next door. Breakfast only, seven days a week from six am to 11. I've been there twice and both experiences have been great. Funky little neighborhood joint that's already filled with a diversified mix of patrons...just like the Vig. Waffles and Corn Beef Hash are off the charts yummy. Dig in, Arcadia.

Thanks for the info - biked over and took a peek inside tonight - four tables! Looks like they had lots of bar stools and a huge patio area, but I'm guessing they'll be packing them in. Looking forward to trying it out very soon.

we ate there yesterday on opening day - they do outdoor seating so there are more tables.
the food was great - i forgot the name of what i had, but it was toasted brioche with an egg, spinach, bacon, and bacon sauce. YUMMM
they have fantastic juices - i had the strawberry with rosemary. the fresh squeezed oj was great, as was the grapefruit juice.
on of my friends had the chicken fried steak, which was great - had a fried egg on top, and not very much gravy. just enough. it was soooooo tender, it was amazing.
there were 5 of us, we all had coffee and juice, and it was about 60 bucks.
even tho its a teensy bit outside of my normal geographic eating zone, i'd happily go again. good times :)

Sounds awesome! I can't wait to go. When i saw them sprucing up the Taco Bell next to the Vig (or is this a different place?) I was ready for a letdown since I heard it was a Vig venture. Actually having a menu is a big step in the right direction.

it's definitely in the repurposed taco bell :D
i really liked it, it was cute, people were nice, food was excellent, great prices. an all around winner. we'll go again.

Just got back from Overeasy for a late breakfast, and I can't wait to go back. I had the chicken fried steak w/country gravy and overeasy egg ($8), which was very tender, the sausage gravy was just as it should be and the batter was nice and crispy. The seasoned breakfast potatoes were also very nicely seasoned and crisp on the outside. I also got a side of Neuske's bacon which was perfectly crisp and delicious ($3). The Overeasy ice (iced coffee w/cinnamon, sweetened condensed milk and cardamom, $3 for large) was just ok, the cardamom is a nice touch but the coffee wasn't brewed strong enough IMO. I also grabbed a razz cherry scone ($4) to-go which I haven't tried, but based on it's size, it had better be dynamite if they expect people to pay $4 for a tiny scone (this was the only price I thought was out of line).
All in all, food came quickly, service was brisk and customers came and went as I ate, just as you would expect with any good breakfast place. I am looking forward to trying the rest of their menu, but I highly recommend a visit soon before the word is out (it's next to the Vig, it won't stay hidden for long).
With Taylor's, Bertha's, Ranch House Grill, LGO (say what you will about it, Mia's pancakes, croque madame or their english muffins are outstanding) and now Overeasy, Arcadia is a great place for breakfast. I'm attaching a scan of their current menu.
Cheers.

I tried it this morning as well, had a ham and cheese omelet ($7) side of sourdough toast ($1.5) and a Diet Coke (props to Seth) $2. Omelete was nicely cooked 2 plus eggs, good dash of sea salt and the seasoned potatoes. Toast was good quality thick cut bread, with a interesting multi fruit jam (so-so). Place is great, but definitely a touch higher priced than RHG, but about even with Taylor's. Nice addition to the neighborhood. Only scary thing was Brad Perry doing a spot for Channel 3 in his jammies. (shudder ;)

Note the address is incorrect ... 3031 is down at Earll, a half mile or more south of Indian School the place is the old Taco Bell by the Vig, which is more like 3931 N 40th St. I think it was a typo in the newspaper article.

its not a half mile. Its the third building from indian school. ralibertos, the vig, and, overseasy (in order) are all right next to each other.

I think it's actually called Los Cerritos, but you get the idea.

oh, it used to be a ralibertos. I don't go there, so since it was still red and yellow I assumed it was the same place.
Super Burrito gets my 2AM taqueria visits.

I'm a Los Armando's guy myself (48nd St/Thomas) - where else can you sit in red vinyl booths at 3am?

@ filibertos on broadway.
I sometimes hit that same Los Armando's, or the one on 40th st. depending on where I am coming from.

Exactly! the street number is incorrect ... don't try to find it on Google Maps. Just go next door to the Vig.

I stopped in Overeasy this morning and join the chorus of happy diners! The place has a little bit of a "Matt's Big Breakfast" vibe, which is great. As far as talent "slinging hash" in town, there is no doubt that while Walter Sterling is still back there that no other breakfast joint has a chef with that kind of pedigree. I had to go with the chicken fried steak with the bacon laden country gravy and the crispy hash browns (a lost art). I thought it was great and as Winedubar pointed out the balance of gravy to steak was perfect. Judging by the crowd in the restaurant, they have delivered something the neighborhood will support. This is most definitely in the breakfast rotation...

I am so glad to see these reviews, as opposed to the Vig reviews we all saw when opened.

We ate there today and didn't find it all that interesting. Outside of a couple of special items, it was pretty ho hum, if not a tad overpriced. For example, 2 eggs - overeasy - hash browns and 2 strips of bacon were 7 bucks (with tax/tip/drink - $12), served on a small plate, which made it look even seem skimpier. Any other sides, toast, etc. were extra. 3 pancakes were $5, which was pretty much your standard kind.
I'm not saying it was bad or disappointing - just really nothing that would prompt me or the others there to go out of they way in the future. With breakfast, I'm either looking for volume (Ranch House Grill, Harlow's, etc) or a wide seletion of unique fare you're not likely to whip up at home (Pishke's). They do get props for making an old taco bell into something brighter and unique with some nice tunes, but I'd like to see them deliver a bit more wow with the offerings.

I visited again on Sunday morning with a group of four and all of us enjoyed our meal - tried the Overeasy brioche which was really excellent and earthy with the spinach and bacon sauce. I tried my gf's malted waffles and thought they were quite good, and also stuck a taste of the three eggs w/wild mushrooms which was also simple and delicious. I agree that it's a tad overpriced, probably on Taylor's level, but I'm ok with that for the quality of the food.
One strange thing to note is that around 10:30, they started turning customers away because of "a problem in the kitchen". I'm not too sure what that means, nor did I inquire as we were talking out; hopefully nothing went too wrong.

I had a chicken fried steak craving this morning and tried to stop in around 9:30 AM and found Overeasy has already found its' fans as a crowd was waiting for tables. My quest for chicken fried steak (to be continued)...

I finally went out for breakfast for the first time in awhile and went to Overeasy. It was absolutely awesome. I ordered the blueberry pancakes and husb had the egg like casserole with eggs, cheddar and a layer of hashbrowns on top. It was unforgettable!! Honestlky the pancakes were cooked perfectly crunchy crust and tasty and soft inside. It definately felt like matt's downtown and I will defintely go back!

Oddly, I just posted about this recently, but didn't glean anywhere near the response that you did. Just had a very nice breakfast there a few days ago (and a very nice staff to match), and I'm doubly pleased that I managed to beat the crowd before the article ran. I'm still recovering from a lousy brunch at Ranch House Grill, so it was a welcome relief.
