Need nice restaurant in Santa Clarita

My in-laws are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary soon, and we'd like to get them a gift certificate to a nice, expensive restaurant. They live in Santa Clarita, and don't like to leave that area very much. Anything in the Morton's or Ruth's Chris category in the area? Anything fancy in the Italian or French genres? Thanks.

  1. There is The Vines at the Hyatt (http://www.hyatt.com/hyatt/images/hot...) , that is supposed to be nice, or Le Chene - http://www.lechene.com/

I've never eaten at either, so I don't know about the foo, but those are two nice restaurants around here. There aren't many choices.

Is it in your budget to hire them a car to take them somewhere else so they don't have to drive?

    1. The Vine isn't bad at all. Not sure about considering it a high end restaurant or special, for that matter.

Consider sending them to Le Chene French Cuisine out in Aqua Dulce. It's a quick 15 minute drive north on Sierra Highway from the heart of Santa Clarita. They have an extensive wine list. Very romantic, a unique setting with an exotic French menu. Escargot and French Onion soup is to die for and a must have before dinner. They're famous for their duck but not being a huge duck lover, I wasn't crazy about it. Their Filet Mignon was melt in your mouth tender. To top it all off, order a Chocolate Soufflé when ordering dinner as it takes about 30 minutes to prepare. Very well made here.

As others have said, it's slim pickings up there so this is probably as good as it gets.

      1. I second the other posters,The Vines is nice, we ate there once when we lived in the area. Le Chene is classic old school French and is very very good.
Or there's always good old steaks at the Backwoods Inn (bring your own wine AND glasses there though, unless you want Woodbridge out of a Libbey all purpose wine glass)
