Is Leda's worth the drive?

I am having a birthday dinner this weekend and instead of getting the usual birthday cake I want to get cupcakes this year. I live on the Westside so was thinking about going to Vanilla but I keep hearing rave reviews about Leda's. My question is it worth the drive, and if so what are your favoriate flavors there?

Thanks.

    Yes!

Passionfruit, dark chocolate, dulce de leche, lemon, coconut...I can't say I've ever been disappointed by a Leda's cupcake.

Keep in mind, cupcakes are bite-sized and they are closed Sundays.

Agree....Leda's is the best!!! Btw, does anyone know if their mini's will still taste good overnight in the fridge?

I agree as well. Their carrot cake with blood orange mascarpone frosting is my favorite.

Depends what you're looking for. They're arch little hoity-toity things; not what I think of when I think "cupcake". They're good; they're "special". But if you're looking for Mom's Gooey Cupcake (which my mom never produced), these would not be they.

I liked Leda's but...the frosting is a true buttercream and if that is what you like, then it is great. They have interesting flavor combinations and their mini cupcakes are cute. My favorite shop so far is Yummies in Burbank. Their cake is good and the frosting is thick. They have one that is chocolate with a ganache center and chocolate frosting!!! I also love Violets in Pasadena for their frostings but I find their cake to be just a little bit lacking. The frosting definitely compensates. Neither are as pretty as Leda's.

Have to agree re: Yummy Cupcakes in Burbank. Sampled 4 and loved them all. That's my kind of frosting, old fashioned, thick, SWEET. Leda's tastes like flavored butter to me and that's not a good thing to my taste buds.

Noteworthy comments here: If you like the buttercream-style frosting, then Leda's is fine. If you like more of a sugary-type frosting, then you will be disappointed. The cake itself is fine enough, yet hardly the best as I see it, but since I do not like the buttercream-style frosting, I have not returned, and live one block from the place.

            Super duper yes!

Great cupcakes, but also good scones, cookies, blondies and cakes. Plenty of samples to try, and great staff.

I am addicted to the dulce de leche, passionfruit, pumpkin and chocolate cupcake, the ginger scones, the blondies, the chocolate chip cookies, snickerdoodles, gingersnaps, chocolate crackles, macaroons...ohhhYUM!

I find other cupcakes haven't measured up.

Yes! Leda's also makes regular sized cupcakes, not just the mini ones. Their vegan cupcakes and other baked goods are AMAZING. They don't taste like they are vegan ingredients at all and they taste, in my opinion, better than the regular. My favorite flavors were the dulce de leche, vegan red velvet, chocolate-vanilla and pumpkin.

I was not so much a fan of Yummy's. I felt the frosting was too sweet and cakes too heavy. I'm in a cupcake meetup group and the group favorite so far is Susie Cake. I am also a huge fan of Daintes (on Santa Monica Ave. near the 405 behind Winchell's Donuts). They have chocolate ganache dipped cupcakes that are filled with fresh whipped cream.

We ordered mini cupcakes from Leda's for my twin boys' first birthday. Great - perfect for little kids too as they are sized so small (adults can have a couple). I've also ordered custom cakes from Leda's and those are awesome. She is so nice to work with and will help to make sure you are getting the exact cake and design for your event. I live in Burbank and just picked up my cake/cupcakes the morning of the event and then put in my fridge. Wouldn't suggest getting the night before - big different in freshness/taste.

go to leda's and try some. discount for kcrw card holders. BUT remember she has cupcakes labelled "kids' cupcakes" that have a different type of frosting. so try both classes of cupcakes and make yoru decision.

                they're very helpful.

if i were thinner, i'd go more often.
