  1. Pintaile's has a whole wheat crust.

    1. Cafe Viva on 2nd ave and 12ths st - Vegan pizzas, some with no cheese, all with whole wheat crust - delicious and healthy.

cafe viva seconded. they have a good mix of dairy and nondairy slices, with various flours (including plain old white) used for the crusts.

Have you ever tried the alternative crusts? I like the idea, but I've always talked myself out of a test run.

        2. Tried the whole wheat pizza at John's Pizzeria 64th Street (1st & York) --tasted like cardboard. I like Slice 2nd Avenue (73rd & 74th). They have lots of different options for crust. I get the whole wheat or spelt and pile lots of vegetables on top. Doesn't taste like greasy new york pizza (yum) but it IS good.

            1. Try Pala - It's not whole wheat crust, but its light and delicious, and the owners claim the recipe is much healthier than normal crusts. And really it is SO good, tastes MUCH better than places like Cafe Viva, which can be chewy and tough sometimes.

Second Pala on Allen. I believe Pala's flour is organic. Their crust is very thin which also minimizes the white flour issue. It tastes different than NYC pizza (Lombardi's, Spumoni Gardens, etc.) lighter and fresher, almost too healthy.
