Mojitos / Portuguese BBQ - Cliffwood Beach

I'm totally mystified - what does anyone see in this place (it recently got two positive reviews in a Monmouth county thread)? The taco bar at Mojito's looks like something from a school lunch room. I was excited to try this place but couldn't bring myself to it once I saw the set up.

Instead, I went to Portuguese BBQ in the same strip mall and had a great grilled (they have an indoor charcoal grill) skirt steak for $15. The sides were nothing great (I ordered wrong) but if you're in the mood for a delicious charcoal grilled hunk of meat (they do ribs and chicken too), this is the place. Family run, very authentic.

Mojitos has great home made food, as much as you can eat, spotless restuarant, and its a great value. $6.99 for all you can eat. add $1.50 for a bottomless drink, and you walk out paying $9.09 with a full stomach. You will pay $7 or $8 for 3 steak or chicken tacos at taco bell, and that stuff is full of preservatives and devoid of flavor, not like Mojitos.

I've been there 3 times alrealdy, the hot food is always fresh and hot, the cold food is always on ice. I usually top out at three plates of food.

The owner, Doug is a great guy, and is really looking to turn this seemingly unsuccessful location around. Last time I was there, he was working on expanding the menu to include American Food like chicken wings and burgers.

It's not fine dining and they don't have cloth napkins, but how can you argue with great food and an even better price?

Give it a try, you wont regret it.

I wrote one of the positive reviews on the other thread, and I will maintain my positive opinion of this place. If you're looking for high-class Mexican cuisine, don't go to Mojito's. But if you're looking for good quality fast food, you'll find it there. I had the best burrito I've ever had for less than $5 and I had enough food left over for a 2nd meal.
My husband has been back several times with his friends for the buffet. I would like to see this restaurant make it, since we are desperate for non-chain fast food in Cliffwood Beach!
On the other hand, hubby ate at the Portuguese BBQ and said it was disgusting. Go figure!

Yeah, I went back to the Portuguese BBQ and it was pretty awful. I guess I just got lucky that first time.

I drove by this location the other day and noticed that the pizza place is now gone and has been for some time. Is there a bad luck thing associated with restaurants that don't do well?

Seems like some locations just keep turning over and over....
