Where are Fresno/Clovis Chowhounds getting their turkeys?
So I decided that I better decide what kind of turkey to order for Thanksgiving. This year I am responsible for the turkey, but because I have never done a turkey before, I was wondering where should I buy my turkey? I would love to know what my fellow Chowhounds are buying for Turkey Day. Heritage? Free Range? Organic? or is the Butterball okay? Please share your opinions/thoughts.

You may want to check out what they have at Bentley's. I just got their newsletter and I know they are carrying several different ones. Also, FYI, they are having their one year anniversary on Saturday. Lot's of samples, etc. Unfortunately, I will be out of town and will miss it.

Last year I wanted a fresh turkey so I placed an order with Catalanos. I think it was for a Heritage. Perhaps I was naive, but I thought that a fresh turkey meant it wasn't frozen. But the one I received (and it was over 20 pounds) was frozen. Still not sure if it was blast chilled or what but it was a good thing I picked it up a day or so before I had planned to. As far as the quality and taste, it was good but to me not noticeably superior from others I have had in the past.
Oh, if you can - definitely brine the bird before cooking it.

Please keep replies focused on where to buy turkeys locally - discussions about what kind of turkey to buy belong on the General Topics board, where there is at least one discussion currently in progress:
