Kobe beef in Montreal?

Where can a mere mortal buy Kobe beef in Montreal? I had the Kobe bavette at Club Chasse et Pêche on the weekend and I want to try and re-create it at home...(i know, good luck...haha) If anyone knows please share!

  1. was it real japanese Kobe beef ? or some sort of Kobe type beef that can be found in the USA or western canada ?

From another board, I found that number : Fresh Cutz (514-685-2889) ( from a couple of years back).

Fresh Cutz is out of business to the best of my knowledge. And what they were selling was a cross-breed of black angus & Canadian kobe.

Club Chasse et Peche uses Canadian Kobe from Ontario(same stuff that's available at Le 357c private club restaurant).

    2. Not on the Island but Boucherie L'entrecôte in Brossard sells products from this supplier , it's a Wagyu Angus hybrid I believe, call and ask what cuts they have available, not the best Wagyu you can get but not too bad either and prices for certain cuts are decent, ask if they have skirt , it makes a decent bavette substitute and wikll probably be cheaper.

Yes it's the same one that Fresh Cutz was carrying in the Montreal-area several years ago. I'll check this establishment out in Brossard.

This product is also available at Boucherie Atlantique on CDN, the last time I checked.

I've never seen kobe beef in Atlantique's refrigerator case nor have I inquired about it, but Nick Robinson's sad quest implied that it has to be special ordered. Based on his experience, I wouldn't chance it.

I have seen it at Atlantique. It not always available. I think you have to special order it, if you want to get it fresh(not frozen). For its price, it's decent, but it doesn't compare to the real Kobe beef from Japan.

        2. Thanks for all the info - I guess i will have to go back to Chasse et Peche....darn....haha!
I will check out the spot in brossard though.

I should mention that I too saw Kobe Classic beef in Brossard last year (although I don't remember where -- probably the same shop that Cricklewood mentions) and it was selling for about 1/5th the price of the same stuff at Atlantique. I blogged about it at the time:

          2. CCP and 357c are from Snake rivier farms not ontario
