VA visitor to CA (specifically OC)
You all have lots of great insights. Maybe you can help with my search for a place to host a small birthday Sunday brunch (about 10 people) in early December. Folks are coming from San Diego and East LA area and are mostly in the "senior" demographic. Buffet is preferable but not mandatory. Price point preference: no more than $40 p/person. Would really appreciate your ideas. Thanks.
Taps in Brea is definitely a good choice, but make reservations early. (http://www.tapsbrea.com/) It has something for everyone for $32 per person. Fresh oysters, shrimp, roast beef, waffles, etc. etc. Nice atmosphere and comes with champagne and OJ. It's in North Orange County, but well worth it!
I heartily concur w/the Taps suggestion! If you opt out of the Mimosa, you have a choice of one of their brews. (North OC)
Another favourite of this board seems to be the Ramos House Cafe. I had breakfast their last week (not their Sunday brunch). I thought it was quite good, though I'm not sure I'd make the trek again just to have brunch (esp when Taps is up the street from me). What I really enjoyed there was the rustic atmosphere and the outhouse-ish washroom. (South OC)

Depends how adventurous you want to be. If you're just looking for sit-down homestyle food you could go to Jagerhaus (will be about $15 a head) or Johnny Reb's ($20), or if you want the usual brunch stuff plus some you could go to Chomp in Fullerton ($25). I only know north OC stuff, so if you're looking for things close to the beach or in the 949, perhaps someone else can chime in.
