Thank you chowhound and skoop323! I typed in "bread pudding L.A.", read your post, and fifteen minutes later I was eating the awesome Brioche Pudding at Cafe Des Artistes--many thanks!!

    2. Cafe des Artistes.

It's Brioche Pudding, and it's outstanding.

      1. Nat's Early Bite in Van Nuys has a nice and custard-like bread pudding. We love it topped with their homemade strawberry jam and whipped cream.

        1. Urth Caffe - Cinnamon Raisin. It's muffin style, eggy, and delicious!

          1. The Nook has superb chocolate banana maple bread pudding!

I had one at Nook more than a year ago that wasn't chocolate but it was good! A good chocolate one was found at Axe on Abbot Kinney. Oh my! Very chocolatey and served in a pool of cream. Definitely something to share.

            2. If one is in the mood for a little upscale bread pudding then the version at Josie Restaurant in Santa Monica is really wonderful. I would term it a hybrid pudding / souffle (pu-ffle?) almost, but delicious no doubt. Chocolate bread pudding with whipped cream, vanilla bean ice cream and chocolate sauce.

              1. There is a little Italian restaurant in Burbank called Prosecco that makes bread pudding with panettone - it's light and delectable.

                1. Angeli Caffe has a good chocolate bread pudding

i was not a big fan of bread pudding until my waiter at angeli caffe made me have one. he promised that if i didn't like it he would take it off my bill. sure enough that big fat slice of heaven ended up on my bill. it's perfectly moist, with just enough chewy and fluffiness if that makes any sense. it's served warm with chocolate syrup. it's almost good enough to get me out of the house right now and drive all the way to hollywood just to eat one!

                  2. May I suggest a trip to Europane Bakery in Pasadena. If you are feeling adventurous enough to make it yourself, then let me be the first to direct you to the MOTHER OF ALL BREAD PUDDING recipies @ http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/foo...

                    1. I love the one at Hungry Cat because they carmelize the top (a la creme brulee) and there's plenty of chocolate to go around.

Nook comes in at a very close second.

                        1. 1. Pat's Restaurant (9233 W. Pico Blvd.). Their chocolate chip bread pudding is the one that got me hooked on bread pudding to begin with.
                          2. Union Cattle Company (I went to the one in Pasadena). They make one with a Jack Daniel's whiskey sauce that is fabulous!

                          1. Milk has the best chocolate chip bread pudding. My husband and I are addicted!

                            1. So many types of bread puddings so little time...

Excellent bread pudding with a berry compote soaked in fruit juices at Susina. Yum! Feels like you are eating healthy and naughty at same time.

With creme brulee base and chocolate at Basix. Just decadent.

With caramel and bourbon (or whiskey?) at Sonora Cafe.

With creme anglaise at Kate Mantilini's inconsistent but pretty good.

The Sonora Cafe's is my favorite...texture (besides taste) of their bread pudding is spot on... extra bourbon vanilla sauce for me.

Oy, now I feel anything I eat tonight will not satisfy me.

                              2. If you want a really decadent version, try the chocolate croissant bread pudding topped with caramel ice cream at chaya brasserie. it is absolutely incredible.
