Shortcut products

It seems that so many Chows really do take cooking seriously, although I can tell we are "playing with our food" as Alton Brown reminds us to do. I am impressed with the desires of so many to use unprocessed foods. I've tried to do that kind of cooking for my family as well. But, I wonder if you have one or two "secret" shortcut products that you rely on.

I rely on several premade products, even as I eschew mixes and premade entrees. Here are products you can find in my pantry:

1. Spike seasoning -- great on eggs or raw veggies

2. Williams chili seasoning -- supposed to season 2 lbs. meat, but I use ii on 1 lb.

3. Jarred spaghetti sauce -- I prefer Bertolli, and I do serious work on it, but that is what I start with

4. Penzey's has a premixed baking spice which is extremely good.

    1. I've only made soup stock once or twice in my life, so I tend to rely on storebought (I love the tetra-packed type, especially Pacific's).
      Pre-washed salad/spinach.
I usually buy pre-grated/crumbled cheeses, unless I'm going to be using a really large amount.
And, as shameful as it is knowing my grandmother, I adore pre-made pie crusts!

        1. Those frozen chopped garlic cubes.

          Joe's Stuff seasoning

            1. Just three:
*Penzeys Fox Point Seasoning. It works well with so many things, eggs, stews, poultry
*Moroccan Rub by the Spice Traders. Found it on close out for $1. Used it on roasted vegies one night when I was in a hurry. Was so good I've been using it when roasting vegies ever since.
*Garlic Expressions. A place I used to work carried it & I tried it there. Would probably be easy to make, but this is fantastic poured over tomatoes. Wonderful on fresh, raw tomatoes & great to put on tomatoes & then broil. Works well as a quick flavoring for bean salads too.
