Dining in Davie over Thanksgiving
I will be in the Ft. Lauderdale and Davie area for the long weekend. The Thursday meal is already arranged (obviously) but the night before and nights after we usually eat out with the rellies. I am looking for suggestions for something other than a chain, for a group of about 6-8. Im up for anything, but we've got a couple of picky whiners in the group, so nothing too exotic. There seem to be a bunch of restos all up and down University Blvd. that I can't get the group to even consider, but look very inviting. Please help ... I just can't face another evening at Buca de Beppo!
Also open to interesting lunch suggestions and reasonable day trips (Miami, etc) as we can sometimes escape the BIL and SIL and venture on our own.

La Brochette and Josef's are very good for dinner. Also very good is Paella Seafood Grill for tapas and obviously paella. The Grapevine on University is good for lunch. Those are all in the Davie/Pembroke Pines area. If you head over to Las Olas/Ft Lauderdale, there are many more options.

Thanks for the additional suggestions! I will try to get my group interested in at least one of these. I must tell you all, however, that we just returned home from a long greasy meal at Catfish Deweys (a Thanksgiving eve "tradition" with these folks) so that's the kind of thing I am trying to stay away from. I agree with ToeFoodie -- I've been to the Carrabba's on University (I had to really push for it last year, and was glad I did) so I might be able to get them to go there too. But I love the Thai/Japanese suggestion too......

I always enjoy Whole Foods for lunch on University, north of 595. They have great hot and cold selections, great soups and a healthy salad bar. There's a dining area in the front of the store after you pay at the cash register. I will reccomend Moon Thai on Weston Road for dinner. They have everything from sushi to teriyaki items. It's great for finicky folks as there are both a Thai and Japanese menu. I'm sorry but I am a hugh fan of the Carrabba's chain and they have a restaurant on University north of 595 as well. I have neer been but want to try La Brochette in the Pembroke Pines/ Davie area.

I would have to go with Kavanagh & Morrissey's Restaurant & Irish Bar. They're not a chain and are definitely not too exotic. Great atmosphere and live music on Friday, Sat, and Sun. Great bar scene there also.
