Where to buy sichuan pepper in the East Bay?

  • m

I've been reading a lot about this stuff, but have never tried it, and as someone who loves spicy foods and trying new things, I'd love to get ahold of some. I live in Walnut Creek, so anywhere in Contra Costa County is ideal, but I'd travel a bit to pick some up. Does 99 Ranch have any? I haven't been back there since I discovered I want this ingredient.

I apologize if this has been discussed before, but I tried searching and didn't find anything. Any help would be appreciated!

  1. you just needed to search using alternate spelling, here is an earlier thread.

    1. Try Country Wide or Country Store Chinese market in Concord/Pacheco. These peppercorns are not spicy per se they have a numbing effect.

It's actually called Country Square Market, and it's at 510 Contra Costa Blvd., in Pleasant Hill. The boundaries do get a bit blurry around there. Very good market, comparable to Ranch 99. There is also a pretty good pho restaurant in the same center.
