Philippe Chow - Any feedback?

princeofpork Nov 4, 2007 06:19 AM

Going here for dinner with 3 other couples for a 40th birthday dinner. We all love good food but also are looking for a lively fun atmosphere. One of the guys made a reservation here. Any opinions or experiences whould be helpful.

Thanks

Phillipe is ok, good food, good service, waaaaaaaay 2 loud though. Great frog legs and deep fried seaweed. Try to go around 8-9pm, there is a show that one of the chefs in the kitchen performs. He's stretching the noodle right in the restaurant. It's cute.
I liked more Mr. Chow Tribeca, not the same nor, the same chef. Phillipe used to work at mr. Chow, left and open Phillilpe. Tribeca is very swanky, sexy, loud as well, food is great and service was impecable.
    Well, enjoy!

Stay away. Philippe was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. Cramped seating, deafening noise, lousy service and at best mediocre food, all of it overly sweet and no better and usually worse than what you can get at your neighborhood Chinese take-out. And it's outrageously expensive to boot. Philippe is a complete and total rip-off. I would cancel that reservation and go anywhere else.

I have to agree that the food is not very good. I liked it the first time I went and was excited, however, every successive time after it got worse and worse. I would pick someplace else as well.

I say, go. The place is very dramatic and it is fun and maybe you'll hit it on a good food night!
