leaving for a trip soon and I wanted to pick up some baked pork buns for my food stash. was in SF Chinatown and decided to try a few from Honolulu Cafe & Bakery (nr. Stockton & Clay) and a few from You's Dim Sum on Broadway (nr. Stockton) I think both were around 80 cents @.
The color rendition is not so great on my pix but the HC&B filling was sort of plain looking (grey/light brown) as compared to the YDS that was definitely reddish (in that Chinese good luck- way) HC&B was a bit more chunky and tasty enough but there wasn't as much of it compared to YDS or the gold standard, Cafe Bakery out in the Sunset. You's Dim Sim had a bit more corn starch (but not in a bad way) and the pieces were a bit smaller but there was more of it and it was also very savory. Both buns have a slight sweetness to them but the HC&B bread was ever so slightly dough-ier .... the YDS bun a bit breadier. You's Dim Sum gets the nod - (thank you Gary)
