Yuzu.. fresh or bottled juice.

Hey Chowhounders,

Would anyone be aware of where I might find fresh yuzu fruit? Failing that, Yuzu juice will do. I've checked Harvest Wagon.

Thanks much in advance!

  1. I've never seen fresh yuzu fruit, but I have seen bottle yuzu juice at Sanko (730 Queen Street). I remember it being about 9 dollars for a small bottle. I believe I also might have seen it at J-Town. Hope that helps!

It certainly does help! Thank you very kindly.

    2. I got bottled yuzu juice at Bill's Lobsters on Gerrard a while ago, and I'm pretty sure I"ve seen it at T&T.

        Are you sure?

I saw a yuzu "dressing" at Bill's, T&T, and Sushi Marche. It also contained things such as hydrolyzed pork protein. And I have yuzu rice vinegar (not worth it, BTW). But I have never seen pure yuzu at Bill's or T&T, or at J-Town. If you have pure yuzu from Bill's, I'll be going there tomorrow!

D'oh -- I just checked the fridge and it's ponzu juice, not yuzu juice.
          A-ponzu-gies for the confusion.

Haha, thanks nonetheless, but I can get Ponzu at 7-11 :D

I was afraid of that. Hope does spring eternal, though. They told me at Sushi Marche that if anyone had it, Sanko would, but I haven't been able to get there.

        2. Its widely available via mail order but I've never seen it in a brick and mortar store in Toronto. NYC you can get it in their j-town easily but thats not so helpful.

Yea, I'm trying to avoid ordering it online (shipping costs more than the actual product by far -- especially for the quantity I need. And yea, I have purchased it in Toronto, San Francisco, LA, Seattle, Chicago... pretty much every other city you can imagine. But once again, TO falls short. Gettin' sick of it.

Thanks nonetheless everyone. Especially wyf -- but I'm not holding out much hope. I'll report back.

I have bought the 9 dollar Yuzu juice at Sanko. Wasn't able to check today if it's in stock (they're closed on Tuesdays) but it probably is.

While expensive, it did last a while. A little went a long way when adding to sauces or dressings. It may have been salted, or condensed in some way. I did have to keep it in the fridge, which suggests it may have been pure.

Just got off the phone with Little Tokyo on Augusta (in the Kensington Market)

              199 Augusta Ave. 416-921-1328

The person I talked to said they have bottled and unsalted yuzu juice. They may also have fresh juice frozen in the freezer - though I had trouble confirming that one.

You are an absolute STAR. Thank you very, very much for your help!

I plan on hitting both Sanko and now Little Tokyo tomorrow. You guys are stupendous.

                1. re: Bueno

Can you report back on the stock situations if you are able to get there?

                  1. re: embee

Sure can - but I didn't make it today. I live in Oshawa, so it's an hour+ drive (without traffic -- which is like, never) into the city. It's a very long haul for a tiny bottle of Yuzu juice. I just need to to pick my time wisely. :)

          2. I have just received a bottle of 100% pure yuzu juice I ordered from the US from It is sold through amazon but is shipped from another company. The total cost with shipping and customs was about 65$ for a 320ml bottle.
I have purchsed it from Sanko, it's a very small bottle but it is NOT pure yuzu. The small green bottle they sell is yuzu and vinegar. I am a regular at Nobu and am completely addicted to Yuzu and have looked absolutely everywhere in Toronto for the real thing. T&T does not carry it. I can also tell you that even Nobu uses bottle Yuzu. I asked the waiter where they found the fresh Yuzu and he brought out a giant bottle of yuzu juice, shocking me that it is all out of a bottle. The one I ordered from Amazon is quite good, worth the $$$.

            1. Late response on this, but I picked up a fresh yuzu fruit at Sanko today for $4 which had been marked down from $8. Smells great. I'll make some sort of dipping sauce with it for my sashimi. They don't have very many though. (one left actually) It might be a seasonal thing.
