Best Pub (Non Upper East Side Frat Party)

a

In the mood for some good pub food. I would love a great burger and a beer and my partner is thinking something like Fish & Chips.
Any area of Manhattan is fine.
We are looking for a place that is more restaurant/food than crazy bar scene - more London than Upper East Side.
Suggestions?

TIA!

Finnegan's Wake is on the UES but it's definitely not a frat scene. Good food and good atmosphere. 1st and 73rd.

Tavern on Jane...Jane St. and 8th Ave.

Also, the Ear Inn on Spring and Greenwich has great atmosphere, but for some reason, no fish & chips.

The Crooked Knife in Murray Hill is nice, not crazy, and good "pub" food. Their fish and chips are nice.

Molly's good food and a fireplace, need I say more?

Must agree with Mollys. Fantastic burger and outstanding Fish and Chips. Great Irish pub atmosphere. Fireplace is a plus.

Second Molly's! Just had the fish & chips; delicious. Love their burgers too.

Like Half King too; best Guinness stew ever.

i had the fish&chips at Half King recently: they were disgusting...incredibly tough stale overcooked fish and lots of thick breading...the salad was gross too...

I had the fish & chips at Half King once myself, and "disgusting" makes the dish sound better than it is.

Try the Half King in Chelsea.

And I haven't tried the food at Puck Fair, but I like the place - and the extensive beer list.

I like the shrimp quesadillas and the potato skins at Puck Fair, but the noise level there is insane (I'm usually there around 10:30 on Thursdays). It's not a crazy bar scene, but it SOUNDS like it is. The beer list, and the beer specials, are a plus.

Yeah, I went on a Friday night and it felt borderline clubby. But I liked it anyway - and I figure people going for a burger would head there earlier.

The Blind Tiger has up-scaled pub food nowadays. The menu has never disappointed us and the beer selection is one of the best in the city.

Try St. James Gate on the UWS, 81st and Amsterdam. Great pub grub, great drinks, bartenders and servers are wonderful. The crowd is more mature, not pitchers, no jello shots. I always find it comfortable and fun.
