We are coming into Manhattan from Boston to meet up with family. I need to make a reservation for dinner for 12 on 11/23. There will be five children in the group, from ages 2-18 (all well behaved and good eaters but there is a 2 year old). There may also be grandparents who don't like overly adventurous food. However, the other adults in the group are adventurous and like all types of good food. Neighborhood and price are lesser considerations. I did a quick search on the board but don't have any brilliant ideas. I would be so appreciative of any suggestions!

  1. Campanile, on 29th St., b/t Madison and Park Av. S., is a neighborhood restaurant with delicious traditional Italian food. Their daily specials are usually a bit more "creative" than the regular menu. Service is friendly and efficient. The large space has an old-fashioned, comfortable feel. They can easily accommodate a group your size.

Looks like a nice option. Thanks for the suggestion.

    2. Does anyone have any non-Italian recommendations?

These are great (and varied) suggestions. Thanks so much.

        2. Since you have 5 children, you may consider BBQ which usually appeal to kids (as long as the grandparents are fine with the choice). Blue Smoke will be a great option with better decor, or try Hill Country for "real" BBQ experience.

I wonder if they will have BBQ turkey? Just a thought.

I wonder if BBQ may not be "New York" enough for the crowd, though I agree that the kids would really like it. Thanks for the suggestion though.

          2. You might try La Petite Abeille -- there are a couple of them, not too adventurous, but definitely New York, and there are always a ton of kids, especially at the one on 20th Street

            1. How about Tony DiNapoli's...great family style Italian...very New York. I think everyone could be very happy there.
