Jay Bee's is a great ( solid "B") place to eat. For the most part Jay Bee's is a BBQ shack in the south end of Los Angeles (actually Gardena) kind of on the edge of the industrial area. Worth the trip from a ways out UNLESS, and thats a big UNLESS, FOOD TV/Guy Fieri ruined this spot like they ruin all of the other spots they "showcase." What a shame, Guy Fieri does one thing to great food spots, HE RUINS THEM. After he spotlights a location, crowds and prices go way up, food takes longer to get, service and quality go way down-hill. Take a look at Schooner or Later (Long Beach) and Gaffey Street Cafe(San Pedro).

I actually liked this particular episode of the referenced FN program. I was amazed to see how much new food service equipment lurked in that tiny shack. Also, they mentioned that the owner's brother owns Interstate BBQ in Memphis (with supposedly the same recipes).
Now that I know the heritage, I'll be trying the pork!›1 Reply -
I went to Jay Bee's for the first time a couple of weekends ago. I got the combo dinner with beef and pork ribs. Wow, were they good. Meaty, tender, great flavor. I got the medium sauce which was just perfect. A little kick, but not overwhelming. I also liked the cole slaw quite a bit. Fresh tasting with a light dressing. The macaroni salad was too gloppy for me. This dinner set me back less than $13. It was enough for 3 meals for me! And the people were very, very nice. I wish this was closer for me... Er, on second thought, maybe it's good it's not so close...
