Lin's Garden and Szechuan Taste - noodle memories
Lately I've been combing Chowhound for recommendations for a Chinatown restaurant for a group dinner, and I've got lots of great suggestions. But it's gotten me thinking about the OLD days, back when I was a little girl in the '70's and my family drove in from New Jersey every Sunday night to go to either Lin's Garden or Szechuan Taste (and later "Szechuan State.") Perusing other posts, I see I'm not the only one who remembers these places fondly. But there are two dishes from those days that I've been jonesing for, and I've never found any replacements. So I'm wondering - do you remember these, and do you know where I can go to find them in the 21st century?
Lin's Garden Chow Fun - apparently famous, though we didn't know that then! I remember it had beef and bok choy, was fried and slightly gummy in the way I like, and I could swear it had lots of black peppercorns.
Szechuan Taste, Noodles with Meat Sauce - It was just simple noodles with pork and bean paste with scallions, but I've never had one I liked as well as theirs. I suppose it could just be nostalgia, but do you know someplace that makes a version that might compare?
I would love to hear your suggestions! Thanks!

Thanks for reminding me of Lin's Garden. I too went there as a kid with my parents in the 70's (from NJ).

The other thing we always ordered was the lemon chicken - batter fried chicken breast with sweet lemony goop. I loved it. And it always came in those round covered metal serving bowls with attached stands. I don't think I've seen those in a long time!
