just wanting a fun, relaxed resto with decent food, reasonably priced to bring my well-behaved 7-yr-old with me for dinner.

I'd try Two Boots on Ave A between 2nd and 3rd. Awesome pizza, serviceable pasta, beer in big boot-shaped glasses for the growed-ups, and a fun, kid-friendly atmosphere. Also not too pricey.

Westville on 11th and A is perfect.

      Cafe Deville-French Bistro 3rd Ave and 12th
Xunta-tapas where he can try many different things and sit on a barrel
Banjara-Indian First Ave and 6th street-the nans, alo paratha, and biriyani, tandoori chicken all should be good for him
      Perbacco-small Italian dishes
      Gruppo, Luozzo's-thin crust pizzas
