Homemade tamales in NYC?
You can go to East 116th street, between Lexington and Third avenues. On the north side of the street, there are usually two or three women who sell tamales that they make at home. They are all very nice, and I'm sure that any of them would welcome a large order. The majority of them make the corn husk sort, but there is one woman, usually about the middle of the block, that makes tamales oaxaquenos, in banana leaves, which are fantastically moist and fragrant. Just ask for them. Good luck!
