Best coffee cake?

uwsyummy Oct 29, 2007 09:08 PM

I am hosting a coffee cake and Scotch party (don't ask!) and I am planning on getting some coffee cake from Zabars...anywhere else I should hit for amazing coffee/scotch worthy cake?

I've liked everything else I've tried at Little Pie Co. (especially their sour cream apple walnut pie), so I would wager their sour cream coffee cake is pretty good.

It's my favorite thing there. They've even had it dotted with blueberries, IIRC.

The Scotch will kill (or enhance) the whole coffee cake rapture, but I'll mention that Eli's Russian Coffee Cake is one of the best money can buy. Very very good.

        I agree 200%

the rugelach at Zabar's is delicious
the ones in the bread dept
        NOT the prepackaged ones

The coffee cake at Doma is pretty excellent. They don't make it there, but I know who does: Jay Plus Dan (www.jayplusdan.com). I'd go for that if I were hosting such a party. And Scotch with coffee cake? Really?

Yes, I agree that Scotch and coffee cake might not be the *best* combination... so what else would you serve with Scotch (its a salon, dessert type night...)?

Any updates on where to find really tasty coffee cake (for eating WITHOUT the scotch)?

Better than Zabar's is the Chocolate Russian Coffeecake
            from Eli's
            80th & Third Ave.

            to die for!

I must say that the rugelach at Zabar's is fantastic
2 kinds: cinnamon and the chocolate - behind the glass at the bread counter
            don't buy the pre-packaged ones...different and tasteless
