Where to find Italian Hambugers

  • 5

I just got back from Illinois and had a comfort food I hadn't seen in decades - the Italian Hamburger. To be specific, it reminds me of a salisbury steak smothered with spaghetti sauce and mozzarella cheese and is typically served open faced on Italian bread. It may include peppercinis as well. Anyone able to find this?

Speaking of which - are there any really good meatball sandwiches in SF? I mean where they actually use homemade meatballs (not frozen, premade)?

I like the meatball sandwich served by Amici's. Unfortunately, they only serve it at lunch (until 3:00pm) -- it's great, though.

I also like the meatball sandwich at Park Chow. I think that that one is only served on Sundays.

it's not quite a meatball sandwich, but close. i guess it's more like one big meatball, flattened. i had it in LA a loooong time ago and saw it at pizza joints in chicago. Sounds like there's none in the bay area?
