where to buy Curry leaves (ideally midtown to park slope)

My husband came back from England with a daal recipe that he insists requires fresh curry leaves. Aside from a trek to Queens, where can we purchase some? I work in midtown and live in park slope, so anywhere en route would be perfect.

  1. You can definitely find them at Kalyustan's (sp?) - Lex and 29th, I think.

    1. Fabulous! I will take a little stroll over there after work and surprise him with them. Much thanks!

      1. In case you haven't made your purchase yet, there are a couple of other spice stores in the immediate vicinity of Kalustyan's that you can try also. As I recall, one (the more spacious of the two) is on the south side of 28th street between Lexington & Park Ave South; the other is a very small shop on the same block as Kalustyan's, a few shops to the north on Lex. Both specialize in Indian/other South Asian foods (while Kalustyan's carries spices and other items from a much broader range of cuisines), and the prices tend to be a lot lower than at Kalustyan's.

There are also a few shops on 1st Ave around the corner from the East 6th St Curry Row restaurants. However, the vegetables are fresher and the merchandise doesn't seem to sit on the shelf as long at the Little India shops near Lex & 28th St mentioned above.
