Pan de Muerto from La Reyna, Windsor

Melanie Wong Oct 29, 2007 12:15 AM

The table decoration for Saturday night's dinner party was an hombre-shaped pan de muerto from La Reyna in Windsor. The medium size set me back $9.50; large is $12+. My guests ripped it apart and devoured it with the cheese course. Baked that morning, it was faintly sweet with a crumbly yet moist texture.

Also available is a mujer-shape, bones, and large pumpkin-shaped round loaves decorated with bones. They need to be ordered a day or two in advance with a paid deposit.

La Reyna has samples of the different shapes on display for your to choose. But the breads have to be pre-ordered.

Forgot to mention that I tried a carnitas taco here and helped myself to the salsa bar. The carnitas are the light and dry style. Not greasy at all, but not that flavorful either. The salsas were a bit watery.
