Golden Pizza

Anyone been? It's so close to my place, it would be great if it were any good. Don't want to risk bad pizza when Danforth Pizza is also close. Would appreciate any comments!

I really like the pizza from Golden Pizza (the one between Woodbine & Main). They'll do either a thick or thin crust on request. To me it seems more of a 'homemade' pizza rather than some commercial rubbery disc. The family that runs the place is extremely nice, and the service is always good. They also do a great burger (awesome pickles) and souvlaki.

It's my regaular friday night hangout with friends/neighbours. Nice that it's within walking distance from my house, for those days when you have to stumble home. :)

Note - there can be quite a few rough characters in there at time (harmless), and it is in need of a makeover (dive-y) - but the prices can't be beat.

I find this place a slight notch above some major chains and below others.
Inconsistent would be the key word.
I would take a pass on this place given many other options available.

I used to regularly order from the Golden on Danforth when I was visiting my mother and at work. The last time I called within maybe the last year there were new owners. My usually tasty Greek pizza was terrible. I stopped ordering from them and made the switch to Venice. Have the new owners gotten the whole flavour thing together?

There's no new owner, if you're talking about the one I mentioned between Woodbine/Main. The same Greek family that has owned it for years is still there. Maybe you caught them on a bad night?

There used to be another branch on Bayview south of Eglinton many years ago. It was a big favourite when my son was young.

Recently for old times sake, we had dinner with the boy, now a man, at the Broadview location. While it's not the same(you can never go back), it was enjoyable and a good value.

Golden Pizza used to be a bit of a chain. I know of four locations for sure that were around in the 80s: Bayview (between Davisville and Eglinton), Broadview (North of Cosburn), Parliament (North of Dundas), and Danforth (East of Woodbine). They used to have very similar tasting pizza (fantastic). The Bayview and Parliament locations are now gone . . . )-`:

The Broadview location seems to have the same fantastic secret sauce that I remember, but the crust is not very inspired, nor are the toppings, and I just don't think they are putting any love into it. It's a good pizza, but not a great one. I cannot speak for the Danforth location, as I have never eaten there. If there is love, though, and they have the same recipe, I'm willing to bet it'll be pretty good.
