Crystal Springs Fish & Poultry - San Mateo

kivarita Oct 28, 2007 11:13 AM

Bad news - Crystal Springs Fish and Poultry is going back to fish and poultry only, giving up the real estate on one side of its space that used to be meat, prepared foods, cheeses, etc. I'm so bummed! I didn't get a chance to talk to Greg (the owner) yesterday when I stopped in -- so I don't know if it was a lease/real estate issue or just that the meat products weren't providing enough of a return...Now it's back to Whole Paycheck and/or Trader Joe's for Niman Ranch pork products and steaks...

Good news though - they start taking Thanksgiving turkey orders on Nov. 1.

I stopped by Crystal Springs Fish and Poultry today and it was locked up.... Looked like it had been closed for a while as there was nothing in any of its cases.... I asked at the bakery next door, and they didn't know if they were on vacation or had closed up shop. Anyone know whats going on here?

They closed for their summer vacation (usually just a week in August) and never re-opened. I went by today while paying a bill at Citibank and there's now a sign on the door saying it would "reopen soon under new management" and had a contact number. No more specifics than that...so we'll just have to see...

I was sent the following in response to a similar query on Yelp!

The small family business of Crystal Springs Fish and Poultry is closed until October 15, 2008, when it will reopen under new management.

Today I stopped by the shop to buy something and I was surprised to see the doors closed and a sign posted. I called the phone number on the sign on the door and spoke with the contact given. I was very sad to learn that the wife of the long-time owner Greg is very ill, which is why the shop is temporarily closed and changing management. My thoughts and prayers are with their family.

        Sorry it's not better news.
