Cooking on Salt Blocks...

Has anyone used salt blocks for cooking on? I want to order a few 8"x8"x2" blocks to put on my burners, but don't want to spend $50+ on each if they crack or come apart under the high heat or long term use.

  1. We just tried ours out tonight. We put it in the oven at 500 degrees for 30 minutes. The first piece of salmon and thinly sliced meat cooked quickly and tasted great, but the block seemed to cool off quickly. We put zucchini and onions on, too, and again, the first batch cooked well. You might need to return it to the oven repeatedly, we're still experimenting.

    1. I had a very bad experience with this -- incredibly salty food that was inedible.
