We love Hokkaido, on Willis Avenue in Roslyn Heights. If you sit at the sushi bar, ask which on is Tony, and tell him that Steve told you that he is the best. Of course, if you are on a budget, you may not want to do this. He will make you all sorts of interesting rolls, plain sushi and sashimi, or if you are lucky, offer you oysters as a choice. For a real treat, if they have any live lobsters, you can have lobster sashimi, then they stir fry the rest for you.

Shogi and Yuki's Palette in Westbury on Old Country Rd.
      Sushi Ya in Garden City
Rock N Sake and Yamaguchi in Pt. Washington
      Kotobuki in Roslyn
      Toku in the Americana Manhasset.

We have found a hidden gem in Great Neck which no one seems to know about. Everyone goes to Daruma next to the Squire movie theater, this to me is a dirty restaurant with very average sushi. But it has just been around a long time and has its regulars. Travel one block north and on the left side of the street next to Elio's pizza is Saku (f/k/a Oyama). The sushi is always fresh and creative and you can't beat the Sushi/Sashimi Boat for 2 for under $40. Also another find is Tomo Sushi next to Fairway in Plainview. Go early as it gets mobbed.

Last time we got sushi ya we thought fish quality was not as good. Our kids love going there tho' so it will never really fall out of rotation. I heard another sushi place was opening across the street - anyone know anything about it?

No, I wish I did . It's to be called Jin East. That's all I know. The windows have been blocked out recently, so work must be going on. Off place to put another sushi place, though...across the street from another one.
