Attn: Ex-NY Hounds - Mallomars Sighting!!

I couldn't believe it - there right before my eyes in Walmart on Bell and Tatum in N.Phoenix a large display of Mallomars!! For those not familiar with this much loved and very famous cookie - they're made by Nabisco. They have a soft graham type cookie on the bottom, marshmallow top and are covered in "pure chocolate". In the two years that I've been living in the valley, this is the first time I've seen them here - I was so excited I bought 6 boxes. They were priced at $2.98 for an 8oz box.

  1. MY Brooklyn-born DH will thank you from the bottom of his Mallomars-lovin' heart when I surprise him with these! Long haul from our far East Valley location, but .......

Just saw this on the boards and must congratulate you on your good luck and good taste. Mallomars are one of the best things about autumn, here in the N.Y. area.

The cookies are seasonal??? Mallomars = autumn? Does Nabisco only make Mallomars at certain times of the year? Is this like fruitcake at Christmas or chocolate eggs for Easter? Explain, please, this is a whole new topic for me.

They're mostly an East Coast item and are usually not available during the summer because the chocolate would melt. In NY they're available every season except summer.

And right there, charlieboy, you have one of the big reasons why Mallomars are so delish. Other "fudge" covered or "chocolately" cookies have a confectioners coating that is NOT chocolate but an oily, waxy, fake. Mallomars have the real melt in your mouth,( and in the box in warm weather), chocolate.

            1. re: lucyis

Plus, the chocolate around the marshmallow (top) part of the cookie is way too thin and would melt instantly. I live in NY and I love seeing signs in the supermarkets saying "They're baa-ack!"

If they had them at this particular Walmart it's possible that they're available at other locations - I would recommend calling your local Walmart to find out before making the trek.

Mallomars are also available at a Walmart in the south Denver suburbs. So maybe it is a nationwide thing.

      3. These cookies are actually only made during this time of year when the whether is cool. Nabisco saturates the market with them and what you find left in the spring and summer is what remains at the end of the season. That is why they are so hard to find during the summer months. I really hope they still have some left, looks like I'll be making a trip to Walmart tonight. Thanks for the tip.
