Bay Area Source for Glass Lab Beakers - Precision Cookware Supplies

Sometimes (especially when cooking small portions) you need something more accurate than a measuring cup or a measuring spoon. I'd like to find a LOCAL source for glass lab beakers (right now I am looking for the 100ml size).

Any suggestions?

  1. Medical or laboratory supplies stores.

      Or catalogs:

      VWR: http://www.vwrsp.com/
      Fisher Scientific: https://www1.fishersci.com/index.jsp

They will assume you are running a meth lab and throw
obstacles in your path, but they will eventually sell you
      whatever glassware/equipment you need.

VWR used to have a will-call desk down in Daly City years ago.
I couldn't find any evidence that it's still there, though.

Thanks for the leads. I'm interested in using these for portion control at large wine tastings.

It would seem to me that a 100 mL beaker would be a little large for that.

Of course, if you fill it up, it's too much, but if you use it to measure out 30ml to 50ml portions, it is just right.

A graduated cylinder is more accurate, beakers aren't really used for accurate and precise measurements. A volumetric flask would also be more accurate.

There are lots of online vendors (Fischer, etc.), and you can try ebay too.

Pipettes could add a nice Molecular Gastronomy touch to your tastings.

A large scale burette would be fast and accurate.

Love the digital burettes! Those would be fun at home.

      2. gram scale- easier and much more accurate in general

True, but electronic scales are usually accurate enough for food weight measurements.

The graduated syringe on this page from Le Sanctuaire looks good and probably no prescription needed.

        2. Stores that sell homebrewing and winemaking supplies typically carry glass beakers.
Three places that I go for my supplies are San Francisco Brewcraft on Clement in SF; Oak Barrel Winecraft in Berkeley; and MoreBeer!/ MoreWine! / MoreCoffee! in Concord.
