I was introduced to Macallan Amber in the current issue of Robb Report, but after some internet searching, I see it's been out in a few US cities since last year. So...has anyone had it?

It's sweet and very maple-y. It's fine -- I had some at a tasting. It might be a nice addition to the after-dinner drink rotation if you love maple flavored things (and if you otherwise like a bit of amaretto or b&b now and then). I recall feeling like it had heavy additions of vanilla and a touch of oak. It's not like drinking macallan, though, so as long as you don't expect it to be like a scotch, you'll be fine.

I had a bottle a few months back and I have to say it tastes exactiy like maple syrup turned into a liqueur. I find it way too strong and sweet to add to any other drink, and only acceptable for drinking on the rocks if you want something REALLY sweet.

Just the idea of it doesn't sound good to me . . . Drambuie is an excellent Scotch-based liqueur*, but the maple just *sounds* wrong to me -- too strong for the Scotch . . .

* So was Lochan Ora, made by the producers of Chivas Regal, but I haven't seen it in years.

Where are you located? ... In Boston, I think I got my bottle at Martingetti's Liquors on Soldiers Field Rd. May have seen it at the liquor store next to the Whole Foods in Alewife too. I don't strongly recommend the stuff however...

Thanks for responding - telling you where I'm from would probably help! Live in the NY/NJ metropolitan area, and can't find this stuff anywhere. I first learned about it in Food and Wine mag, but I'm starting to wonder if perhaps it's not available in this neck of the woods. I've seen both good and bad reviews thus far.
