Lost in London - CAFE HELP
Hello,
I just moved to London from a place where the culture was very much "sit in a cafe, have a coffee, be by yourself, hang around for two or three hours quietly to read and write, we won't bother you"... and I can't find a place like that at ALL.
I guess "cafes" here are more places to get a quick meal at lunch time, twenty three types of baguette sandwiches instead of twenty three types of tea leaves. I've tried Starbucks and other chains in desperation, but the places are all too noisy to get some work done plus I feel rushed. I've tried Monmouth in Covent Garden, and the tiny tables don't help, nor does the sharing space with others.
PLEASE HELP ME! I am desperate to find a place to do my work and still enjoy a good cup of coffee (or three) while I'm at it. Wireless is a plus, but not a must-have. I live on the Strand, near Holborn and Covent Garden.
Thanks so much for all your help.

I haven't been to any of these, but the guide to cafe society on Gridskipper might be a good start: http://gridskipper.com/travel/london/...
Maybe you could settle in at the Wolseley if you take to wearing waistcoats and such.

The cafe places where I live south of London are what you describe being after, but I think that's the problem....you are right in the midst of an area that has crowded, noisy coffee places. The only 'space-friendly' spots are probably restaurants and you're not after that environment. The downstairs cafe at Waterstone's near Piccadilly is a fairly nice and often quiet spot, but I don't know about their wireless setup. You could ask.
I hope someone more familiar with that area will have a name for you. I work at home - that's the best place for me!
