Victoria Inn, Lafitte

  • 9

Just spent a couple of nights at the Victoria Inn and had dinner one night at the Restaurant there. Chef Matt Regan is wonderful. We loved the Creole Bouillabaisse. The saffron seasoning was unexpected and truly tasty. I also had grilled bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer that was served on top of canneloni beans that tasted cooked in some sort of pork based sauce. The white chocolate bread pudding was divine. It was not the typical heavy dessert I had tasted before at other places. It was light (probably beaten egg whites were used) and served warm. Perfect meal on a cool October evening in the most out of the way place I have ever been. I am going back. It was just 20 minutes from the Quarter on Highway 45.

  1. I didn't realize that the restaurant was still open...I swear I saw the property listed for sale. Did someone buy it?

not for sale at this time. We just returned today and we didn't see any for sale signs. my husband and I write a travel column for a BR magazine and we went to do an article. We talked to the original owners who are the innkeepers. It's definitely worth a drive. The restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but open other evenings from 6:30 to 9:30. There are only about 15 tables, so I would recommend a reservation if driving from NO.
Next time I go I am planning to skip the main dish and have a bowl of that Bouillabaisse. It was that tasty!

you have proved your point. Hooray! We still had a great weekday escape there last week...for sale or not.

      2. I sang there a couple of times! They used to have Friday night dinners on the dock with entertainment. They may still do that, I'm out of the loop with it these days. The food was great, the setting was idyllic (love overlooking the bayou from the pool on the dock), people are nice. Glad to hear it's still going strong.

        1. Anyone know if this restaurant is still open? I will be looking for a good dinner after a fishing trip on a wednesday in March. Other suggestions in the Lafitte area are also very welcome.

Try Voleo's about a mile past Victoria Inn. Everyone we have turned on to it have Raved and for good reason. Very Casual, but has some of the best fried seafood in the city, including all retaurants in the metro area. They also serve 2 german food platters which is something different. My wife enjoys that. Also good gumbo. Inexpensive.
