Lunch at Lai Toh Heen (short review)
I was surprise to see that LTH offers set lunch for $20/person.
I tried it & found it quite nice.
Here's what we had:
Assorted dim sum ( 4 pcs.) :
pastry filled w/ foie gras - the pastry is puffy & not too oily, can't taste the foie gras though;
steamed wonton w/ minced chicken & vegetable - very neat & clean taste,
har gau - good
baked puff pastry w/ cured ham & shrimp - good balance of sweet & saltiness.
Choice of soup:
meat wonton in chicken consomme - very good! The consomme has fragrance of chinese ham, meat filling has some veg that makes it quite refreshing.
hot & sour soup w/ seafood - my friend enjoyed it very much.
assorted mushroom in egg drop soup.
Choice of :
shredded duck with fried noodle - my friend said it's delicious
chicken fried rice - quite a big portion. It's piping hot & tasty.
cream custard tart
deep fried glutineoug ball , ginger & lotus paste filling, sesame crust - outstanding.
I was full after eating all these.
Service was attentive & efficient.
Worth a try if you are in that area.
You are right. The choices look boring. However, the tastes are competible to Lai Wah Heen.
The most enjoyable dish for me was meat wonton in chicken consomme. It's surprisingly good. ( I tried all those dim sum at LWH before, so no surprise at all)
The reason for my post was to make other CH aware that LTH offers a new set lunch for $20 instead of $30.
I was there on Wed & only 4 tables occupied. That probably is the reason for it.
