Where can I find burrata cheese?

I'm trying to find a place where I can by burrata cheese, mozzarella's cousin. Anyone know where to find some?

  1. I know for sure you can get it a Ideal Cheese on 51st and 1st. Probably Murray's too.

I saw it Ideal about two weeks ago, FWIW.

    2. We buy them at the exact same places that tbear posted above - Ideal on 1st Ave and at Murrays in Grand Central Market. They're usually freshly flown in from Italy.

Also have seen it at Bel Canto in the Chelsea Market

If you happen to be up on Arthur Ave. in the Bronx, Calandra's Cheese should have it.

It is indeed a regular feature at the Italian shop in Chelsea Market. However, it is called Buon Italia.

I've also bought it at DiPalo, and have watched it made fresh from curds at Agata & Valentina.

We also buy burrata from Murrays in Grand Central Market.Burrata is a typical fresh cheese produce in Italy.Caseificio Olanda is based in Andria, in the south of Italy – Apulia and produce hand-made fresh cheese recalling tradionally handed down recipes.

          3. DiPalo's on Grand (at Mott St.)

A few months ago, Lou, at DiPaolo's told me that they had started to make their own and normally have it on Saturday mornings.

            2. Murray's Cheese on Bleecker has it in the store about half the time- I shop there several times per week. I would say they get one shipment per week, which lasts two or three days.

Isn't Murray's also in Grand Central? Either way the cheese shop in the terminal gets it on Fri or Sat.

Yes - that is Murray's - and I remember another poster getting it there (or was that you?).

LOL that was me, and you were very wonderful to help me find it! My husband picked it up on his way home from work.

Yup- Murray's also has a very convenient outpost in GC. It's good to know that they get theirs fresh at the end of the week- thanks for the info.
EDIT- I should have mentioned that the Bleecker location did not appear to have any Burrata last night (Friday).

                      1. re: vvvindaloo

If I remember correctly, at GC, they were out on Friday and said they get their shipment on Saturdays. Bleeker probably also gets their shipment the same day. When my husband cheked on Monday it was back in stock.

                        1. re: vvvindaloo

I saw Burrata at Murray's on Bleecker today (Sat)

                2. Agata and Valentina also sells it. The trick is to ask when the shipment comes in and get it that day to maximize freshness. Better still, get DiPalo's house made version which does not have to travel from Campania!.

                  1. Most people already mentioned, but I have definitely seen them recently at the following places:
                    - Murray's Cheese on Bleecker
                    - DiPalo
                    - Whole Foods at Union Square (a surprise!)

I just came back from Whole Foods / Chelsea and they had some.

                    2. downtown manhattan i've seen it most consistently at the new whole foods bowery. sometimes whole foods union square. if you're lucky they'll also have it in buon italia in chelsea market.

                        1. I saw it once at Garden of Eden on 14th street. I guess my timing has been off at Whole Foods since I have never seen it there and I have looked!

                          1. I have purchased it at Citarella-- the one on 6th Ave-- a couple times.

And, actually - I also see it on the 3rd Avenue one sometimes.

                            2. DiPalo's, Murray's and Citerella usuually have it. More interestingly, what does everyone do with it? Me- I get back to the car, rip open the package and eat it while it dribbles down my leg ruining the floor carpet.

Just got back from DiPalo's! They were sold out of the burrata they import from Puglia every Saturday so I bought a ball of their house-made burrata ($5.99) and a jar of pesto. Then I ran the six blocks home in the rain, up five exhausting flights of stairs, toasted slices of ciabatta from Zaro's, and made a super duper dinner with the ciabatta, sliced heirloom tomatoes from today's Greenmarket, the pesto and burrrrrrrraaata! Oh, sooo delicious! :)

                              2. Zabar's had it last time I was there.

Zabar's definitely has it, and often.

I've had it at Supper on 2nd st between A and B. They only have it on the weekends.

                                2. Zeytuna at 59 Maiden Lane , downtown NY has it .
