Fort Worth Area - Mexican & BBQ?

Jet41 Oct 23, 2007 02:13 PM

Not interested in chain food, I could care less about chic, trendy, etc, I only want good food, thats the only qualifier. Looking for Mexican & BBQ in Fort Worth area. I've tried Joe T's, it's good but want to try something different this time. Mexican should have more to offer than the standard enchiladas, tacos and burritos. BBQ just be good food, I know good BBQ when I eat it.

If you are ever in the mood for great tacos the Garlic Shredded Beef Tacos at Fuzzy's Taco shop are wonderful.

I have no idea why this place did not cross my mind earlier- you should try La Familia. It use to be on 7th street just outside of downtown. They have moved about a block away to 841 Foch Street. Family owned- it is common for the owner, Al, to greet you at the door.

La Familia is pretty decent food, and yes the owner and service are great. I had a good dinner there my first time.

The stockyards has a few good smaller mexican places. El Asedero is pretty good and has some of the hottest salsa around. Fuzzy's has great taco's, and despite being a mini-chain I like the food and margaritas at Gloria's in Montgomery Plaza. Tres Jose's is another good mexican place.

I have tried El Asadero and loved it...some may not. Anyway for recommendations I have found that the FW Weekly is not as watered down in the recommendations as the Observer is. All of their recommendations seem to hold up. Here is the newest best of 2007. It looks like Mom's Barbecue in FW got the nod for BBQ in the FW area this year and Texas Pit BBQin Saginaw got the vote last year.

I love Mexican Inn for a change of pace. Their chips are so different from all the rest. They are addictive. The plates are just ok, but I like the chicken and rice.
