Hi,

Just want to share this new address. It's strange but I don't find much about it on the net. It open during summer on Place Valois in hochelaga maisonneuve. The food was a little bit so so when it opened but It change dramatically since a month now. It seem there's a new chef in the kitchen! You can get for cheap price nice meal. I've tried "Choucroute de la mer" witch contains 4 types of fish with a big gamba. Really nice, Rissoto is good, bavette. A typical french card. The wine card is really nice also. Private importation at cheap price. Yesterday they told me that they will have more than 20 new wines this week that will be available by the glass.

Next summer for sure, it will be "The address" in the area with it's big terrasse, good food, good wine!

I don't know the address but it's on the corner of ontario and Vallois.

Oh, we had brunch there this past Sunday. The setting is really nice. I love the large windows and how the sun streams in so nicely and bounces off the coloured glass above the bar. The decor is pretty nice, especially those lovely modern bar stools. I just found that the dining chairs don't really match anything else, which is unfortunate.

They seemed highly understaffed! The waiters were literally running each time they came back from serving someone on the terrasse.

I had the "Assiette Valois" which consisted of oeufs brouillé, ham, tomato, spinach and cheese on a croissant, served with (something like) patates rissollées. For less than $7, I suppose I can't really complain too much about the quality, however the ham was of industrial quality, the eggs were pretty badly overcooked and the potatoes were quite greasy - it was almost like they'd been deep fried then tossed with diced onions and terragon. I wasn't crazy about the plate, but overall it was edible and cheap, so like I said, I can't complain too much.

My brunchmate had the tartine forestière, an open faced sandwich of mushrooms and camembert served with an arrugula and radicchio side salad. He also had a smoothie-like juice called the "exilir" which I believe had banana, fruit juice, yogurt, and honey. I think he was pretty pleased over all.

We shared the fromage moelleux for dessert. I must say, the cheese cake (ricotta, I think, and maybe something else) was quite decadent and had a nice strong vanilla flavour. It was served topped with some very thin slices of pineapple poached in a star anis concoction. It was quite tasty but impossible to cut, especially since we were only given little spoons.

The piece de resistance, however, was the café B52. I am in somewhat of a boozy coffee phase these days and coudn't resist. It was presented to me with nice dollop of whipped cream and some coffee beans dusted with cocoa powder. Excitedly, I took my first sip, and it was all I could do to not spit it back out again, as the lovely ring of sugar rimming the cup was actually SALT. I must say, it was quite a shock, and I may not have tasted anything quite so wretched in my whole life. Disgusting. Luckily they took it back graciously and made me a new one, but I will not soon forget that experience.

You beat me to it. ;)

I had just written pretty much the same thing. I really loved the decor, too. It tought it looked like a French brasserie had mated with Finnish sauna.

I really think they should have comped that coffee. That would have been the classy thing to do.

Tired of going to the same breakfast place every saturdays, we decided to give Le Valois a try. We didn't expect much given the neighboorhood, but it was definitely worth the small drive. Very cute decor and nice service. Funny, we got the same dish as mainsqueeze: I had the assiette Valois and my bf got the Tartine forestière with mushroom and camemberg. Cheap and very tasty. The Tartine was definitely the highlight of our meal. I can't wait to go back and have one myself.

In our case, the coffees were comped..

Will definitely go back. Give it a try before it gets too crowded on the weekend.

For anyone who cares, Luck Merville was there...

I finally got around to visiting Le valois and liked it. I had their salmon tartare as an appetizer and it was excellent. I had their bavette for an entree but was not impressed. It was okay, but not as good as the bavette from Le continental or le Zeste de folie who often offer either beef or bison bavette. The wine list is nice because you have a lot of wines under 30$ which is a rare thing nowadays in restaurants. The place in itself is beautiful. The set up with the kitchen with a frosted glass and the terrasse on the side of the restaurant makes up for a beautiful restaurant. I will certainly go back there.
