Calgary restaurants

  • 3

I recently visited Calgary and had a GREAT time! I found two restaurants that just blew me away, and wanted to share them.

One was Locos - a small bar and grill at the corner of 4th and 5th. It is only a block away from the 5Calgary hotel, and the food was wonderful! The pizza is out of this world, and the lasagna and Alberta burger were great, as well. The prices are reasonable, and they have great beer on tap. I highly recommend it!

The other was the Avenue Diner, at the corner of 8th (Stephen) Avenue and 1st. This is a breakfast/lunch only place, but the food was incredible. We had both breakfast and lunch here on different occasions, and were duly impressed! They had great food, great service, and reasonable prices. What more can you ask?

My friend and I were in town for 12 days, and went back to each of these places about 4 times each. We tried other places, but nothing seemed to compare! Do make an effort to try these restaurants ... you'll be happy you did!

  1. Glad you enjoyed yourself in our town! Personally, I was/have not been impressed with Avenue Diner. I found the food mediocre. The hot new kid on the block here is Il Gallo Nero -- fabulous Italian food. We travelled all over Italy this spring, and this restaurant brings it very close to what we experienced. Dinner for two without drinks and with tip $120.00

    1. Now, see, I would never even think of trying Loco's. It looks like a crack dealer hangout, but sometimes appearances can be deceiving (look at Vogglio). Thanks!

      1. I would advise checking out Fourth & 4th, about 100 feet east of Locos. Having eaten at both, I found Fourth & 4th to be better all around. Others may disagree, though.
