R.U.B. @ Rio?
I'll be in Vegas in December with some family, and my mom is in charge of picking the restaurants (believe me, I wish that was my job). She said that for one dinner we'll be eating at R.U.B. at the Rio. I've never even heard of it, but apparently its "all the rage" according to my mom. She tends to go by the opinions of only a few particular people but she usually leans towards chain restaurants and the like (ew), so I wanted to see if anyone on the board has been there. If so, is it any good? If it turns out it's awful then I'm definitely going to convince her to change the reservation to somewhere else, so any feedback you can give is appreciated! Thank you!
hmmmm...i was in rio today - i wasn't looking for it, but i did not see the place nor did i see any ads for it - there were quite a few posters for the bowling alley and the newest italian place witha chef sporting several tatoo's...i've heard of Rub so another place to try !!!
Haven't been yet, as I don't know if it's opened yet or not. It's supposed to open in October or November, but I'm not sure. But I've read about it, with the Vegas location being the 2nd restaurant being opened. The original location is in New York.
It's a BBQ place, and I've read mixed reviews of the New York location. Some say it's the best BBQ in New York City, while others say it's just mediocre or disappointing.
My impression is that it'll be a step up from a Tony Roma's, but I don't know how upscale you can go with BBQ. This place will definitely not be a Robuchon or Alex or any of the other high end Vegas restaurants.
Adjust your expectations accordingly. Do check out the New York boards for reviews of the original RUB location.
Here's the link I found on the Harrah's site (owner of the Rio casino). No listed opening date, just a "coming soon" sign.
Here is a press release from July, stating an opening in early Fall.
The article lists the restaurant being on the 2nd level in the Masquerade Village section of the Rio.
This bloglink says that RUB will open Nov. 1. Not sure how accurate that is.
And FYI, RUB stands for Righteous Urban Barbecue.
