Back in 2004/2005 it seems like I saw more good review of Zealous. My personal experience in that time frame was unforgettable and quite expensive. Fortunatley my company was paying, so no skin off my back. I drank enough to make up for the small portions.
Maybe its improved, but some recent reviews make me think not:
Japonais is also very close to you and might be more fun for the first night out. Kind of a scene that caters to the 20/30 something crowd, but spectacular interior design, interesting food, fun people watching.
Or for a more casual meal, Scoozie is a decent Italian place.
Brasserie Ruhlman in the Montgomery Bldg. is also scheduled to open soon. Might be spectacular. Might just be overpriced Bistro food. If you do go, let us know how it was.
Fortuanatly you are also reasonable walk, and certainly a 5-10 minute cab ride, to literally hundreds of restaurants. Anything in particular that you like?
Welcome to the City. If your a real Chowhound you'll love it here.
I have just been to Zealous once, but had a wonderful time. It doesn't get a lot of press, and wasn't packed by any means on a Friday night, but still fairly lively. The food was not mind blowing in terms of innovation, but perfect in execution. We did the tasting menu with wine pairings, and it was about $480 for two people. A great night, and worth trying and experiencing.
