Need great food, kid friendly place for 20+ people.

I am trying to think ahead for a family get-together. After trying to make everyone happy last year, I swore I wouldn't organize this again this year, but here I am.... so....

I need a place where:

The food is really great (possibly American, Mexican or Italian).
They can fit us all somewhat close together.
Okay for kids.
Open by 11:00am. (weekday or weekend is fine)
Can be sit down or counter order.
Doesn't need reservations!

I have a group that ranges from 3 yrs. to 82 yrs. and a few are not very adventurous in their
food... :(

I am in San Gabriel, but the other families are in Malibu, Manhattan Beach, &
Huntington Beach, so anywhere around any of those places are fine. We're all
willing to travel.

Oh, please help!

      1. You've got some good suggestions to work with Kip. Add to the list:
        1. C&O Trattoria
        2. El Cholo
        3. Enterprise Fish Co.
        4. Houston's
        5. I Cugini
        6. Ocean Avenue Seafood

These are all in Santa Monica, except for C&O, which is in Marina Del Rey. I'm 99.9% that they're open all day. Have fun.

houston's is a great choice in terms of menu & atmosphere, i'm just not sure they can accommodate such a large group.

but if they can, it'd be at the top of my list!

          1. re: goodhealthgourmet

houston's has a nightclub-esque vibe, I think totally inappropriate for youngsters and maybe, oldsters.

Go for red-sauce Italian or 26 Beach sounds good. C&O has a fun atmosphere/vibe and near beach.

            1. re: Silverlaker

i think it depends on the specific houston's location and time of day. some of the ones i've been to are very family-friendly [and occasionally teeming with toddlers - particularly during weekend lunch at the s.m. promenade].

          2. re: omakase

            Second C & O, esp w/ kids.

Nicer, you might try Fritto Misto though I believe they don't open til 1130.

Also, Cafe Crepe is easy and accommodating.

If you want to spend more, try Chez Mimi

            Other ideas...

            Broadway Deli

            La Serenata

            Lula's on Main

            The Buffalo Room

            Campanile

Rose Cafe or Lilly's French Cafe if you *did* choose to call ahead and forewarn

            1. re: Emme

Lula's is an excellent idea! Tasty Mexican food & margaritias. Good range of choices. I've been there for a large family/friends dinner; they accommodated us easily (I think we were about 16). At my dinner, there were both toddlers and young teens as well as older adults. I'm not sure though about the acoustics inside for the much older (82 year old), but the patio would definitely work.

          3. another thought. not "great" food, but meets all your other criteria...
